London
The thing I really love about London is that it is just a quick hop over the pond from many East Coast cities and that makes it an easy escape for a long weekend. Who wouldn’t want to spend a weekend exploring luxurious palaces, museums, traditional pubs with cutting edge music or grabbing a show at a West End theater?   London is a city of many contrasts from the historical to the ultra modern and it is a melting pot of cultures and cuisines and is an experience no one should miss.

My first day in London is an early arrival and grabbing the Tube at Heathrow.   After a 40 minute train ride into the city I drop my bags with the concierge and look for a Starbucks to provide the necessary fuel to make it through my day.   First on the agenda is the famous double-decker bus.   I love these buses because you have hop on/hop off privileges and it makes it easy to navigate between main tourist sites.   Of course the ride itself is a tour and if it is your first time in London I recommend riding the loop before you begin exploring.  This will give you an idea of the “lay of the land” so to speak.    My ride is followed by the British Airways London Eye with birds eye views of the city and the Thames.   This is followed by a leisurely float down the Thames where I enjoy London Bridge, views of Parliament, and Big Ben along with the Tower of London.   Of course I can never stop off in London without enjoying a peek at the crown jewels guarded by the Beefeaters at the Tower.    In the afternoon its back to my hotel to unpack, shower and head back out for a bite to eat in one of the many ethnic restaurants before retiring early.

The remainder of the weekend is filled with so many options.  Buckingham Palace, high tea enjoyed in the luxury of The Ritz, the latest theater productions in the west end, music in the parks, the market in Kensington, shopping at Harrod’s, a Shakespeare production at The Globe and countless hours enjoying the fabulous people watching this city provides.   All too soon the weekend comes to an end and before you know it, it is time to hop back over the pond.   Of course it is a city that I’ll return to again and again.   That is the great thing about London is that it is an easy trip (just as easy as flying to the West Coast) and if you only have a weekend it makes a fabulous weekend getaway.
